How will Annalee cope when her dear husband suddenly dies and leaves her to bear and raise their unborn child alone?
Annalee Bishop has no idea of what to do when her husband suddenly dies, especially since she’s pregnant. Now she’s relying on the help of her friend and neighbor, who’s also struggling with raising a defiant son. She must bear her cross alone, or so she believes, because her friend must find a way to help her son through a dangerous situation and has no time for Annalee, regardless of how much they love each other.
Suddenly, a mutually beneficial solution is presented to her out of the blue—marry a good man who’s also struggling to raise a child alone. The handsome widower must take care of his daughter instead of running his farm, so he needs help, and she needs someone to help her provide for her unborn child. A wedding of convenience seems to be the perfect answer, but like every woman, she wonders if there should be more to the relationship.
“I can and I am,” she answered. “Listen, David, I know we do not know each other very well and you certainly don’t care for me as you would a wife. I am still reeling from my own husband’s death, trying to cope and move forward, but your precious child needs a nurse…no…a mother, and I’m proposing to do the best I can do by her. None of us can know how long she will be with us, but with good care, it could be a long time. If ever a child needed love and care, it is her, and I’m willing to do that. I don’t know much about a farm or what to do, but I am a willing and easy learner and I will promise to be a good helper.”
Widower David Boyles knows that he needs help with his precious little girl. She has a terminal illness that requires around-the-clock care, which he cannot offer if he wants to keep his farm working and producing. Now that his wife is gone, he must make a decision: find someone to help, or lose everything he loves most in life for a second time.
The beautiful pregnant widow does not yet have his heart, but she cares for his Julie and will be a good mother to her during her last moments on Earth. A marriage of convenience is the obvious choice, but he hopes that someday they will come to mean more to each other than a name. However, a secret from his past threatens to destroy everything, including the unborn life that Annalee holds so dear…
Can David confront his past and admit to it, or will it cause another death in their broken little family?
Will Annalee find room in her heart to love again, and will she truly be able to accept David’s child as her own?
